Detrusor underactivity (DU) and underactive bladder (UAB) symptoms occur commonly with or without neurogenic causes. Patients with DU often present with confusing storage and emptying LUTS and urodynamics (UDS) is the only accepted method for diagnosing DU and differentiating it from bladder outlet obstruction (BOO). The complicated nature of defining and diagnosing DU / UAB is discussed, along with UDS case studies.

Accreditation Statement:
Society of Urologic Nurses and Associates (SUNA) is accredited with distinction as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

The SUNA accreditation is reciprocal in the states and specialty organizations that recognize the ANCC-COA accreditation process. SUNA is also a provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP 5556. Accreditation and approved provider status of CE in nursing does not imply ANCC-COA approval or endorsement of any product, advertising, or educational content. SUNA urges all participants to be aware of the CE requirements for re-licensure in the states in which they hold a license.

Learning Outcome:
After completing this education activity, the learner will be able to discuss the important role that urodynamics plays in diagnosing this prevalent urologic problem for patients, and confidently identify urodynamic pressure relationships that effectively differentiate detrusor underactivity from bladder outlet obstruction.

Thursday

Multichannel urodynamic testing is highly operator dependent and can be complex. The purpose of this workshop is to aid the urologic clinician performing multichannel urodynamic testing including non-intubated uroflowmetry, filling cystometrogram, sphincter electromyography, urethral pressure profilometry, and voiding pressure flow test. Emphasis placed on a step-wise approach to testing, including quality control measures to ensure safety during testing and production of valid and reproducible findings. The workshop is designed for clinicians with limited to extensive experience with urodynamic testing; it is not designed for clinicians who have never performed urodynamics.
