Diabetes mellitus is a highly prevalent condition, affecting more than 30 million persons living in the United States. It can affect multiple organs, including the kidneys, lower urinary tract, and reproductive system. This lecture reviews the effects of newly diagnosed and long-term diabetes mellitus on urologic and sexual function, along with recommendations for screening individuals with diabetes mellitus, preventive interventions, and treatment.
