Jane Hokanson Hawks PhD, MSN, RN, FAAN

Jane Hokanson Hawks, PhD, RN-BC, is a Professor of Nursing , Nebraska Methodist College, Omaha, NE, where she teaches courses in the online MSN Nurse Executive program. She is also the Editor of Urologic Nursing and co-editor of the Black and Hawks (2001, 2005, and 2009) textbook entitled, "Medical-Surgical Nursing: Clinical Management for Positive Outcomes" (6th through 8th editions). Currently, Jane is the chair of the American Nurses Credentialing Center Medical-Surgical Nurse Expert Panel which is preparing the latest Medical-Surigcal Nurse certification examination that will be used beginning April 1, 2012. The group has completed a role delineation study and item reclassification in preparing for the new examination. She helped set the passing score for the current examination which has been in effect since January 2007. Jane also contributed to a book on mentoring for college faculty members entitled Mentoring for Mission, as part of a grant that she and colleagues received from the Lilly Foundation. She is a manuscript reviewer for the NLN publication, Nursing Education Perspectives. Jane has presented on various topics at multiple national and regional conferences and published over 50 articles, book chapters, and textbooks. She recently spoke on writing for publication and developing an abstract at the European Association of Urologic Nurses Congress in Vienna, Austria, in March 2011.
