Leanne Schimke has spent her career as a registered nurse and ultimately as a nurse practitioner in the urology field. She is currently urology nurse practitioner in a private urology office practice where she specializes in advanced prostate cancer but sees patients with all types of urology problems. She does urology consults and follow up on patients at Lancaster Rehab Hospital. She has worked in urology as an RN and NP over 30 years. She obtained certification as a urology nurse practitioner in 2005. She has been a speaker on a variety of urology topics since 2005 at both the local and national levels, presenting at the American College of Nurse Practitioners Annual Conferences and the Society of Urologic Nurses and Associates (SUNA) Annual Conferences. She is the current SUNA Treasurer. She has published articles on Microscopic Hematuria; DXA scans in men on androgen deprivation therapy, Research Tolerability of Trelstar injections and Fall Risks in the Urologic Elderly. She was the editor for the urology chapter in the 2009 Lippincott Manual of Nursing and has served as a reviewer of various chapters in the Core Curriculum for Urological Nursing and is a coauthor of the renal cancer and prostate cancer chapters.
