Description

Urinary catheterization is a common procedure in the inpatient setting. While there are specific indications that necessitate the use of catheters, their use is not without risk to the patient. Indications for catheter use, present age, disease-specific considerations, and steps that can minimize complications and promote catheter safety from the time of insertion throughout use are presented.
