Description

Pelvic floor muscle dysfunction affects people of all ages, including children. The most common forms of pelvic floor muscle dysfunction in children are dysfunctional elimination syndrome and bedwetting. This presentation focuses on the treatment of children with day or night time fecal and/or urinary incontinence. Common causes of incontinence/dysfunctional elimination in this population are discussed, as well as effective treatment strategies, behavioral changes, and dietary/fluid intake modifications. Pediatric terminology is reviewed, and tests to determine type of dysfunction are discussed. A live biofeedback demonstration and case studies will illustrate treatment methods.
