This advanced practice session will focus on discussion of current hormone replacement therapies; both FDA approved formulations as well as compounded; “bioidentical” preparations and non-hormonal options for symptom control. A review of the WHI as well as current research on HRT will be presented with discussion of risks and benefits of HRT.
Learning Objectives:
Explain common signs and symptoms of the menopause.
Discuss the origins/history of hormone replacement therapy.
Identify treatment options for menopausal symptoms: hormonal and non-hormonal.
Discuss controversy of hormonal use: WHI and later research.
