Annual Conference 2012

341 - Just How Are We Supposed to Treat Vesicoureteral Reflux in Children Now?

Nov 5, 2012 11:35am ‐ Nov 5, 2012 12:35pm

Standard: $30.00
Members: $20.00

Recently there have been recommendations from many different groups - the AAP; AUA; RIVUR study; and the AAP Section of Urology on evaluation and treatment guidelines. Many of these contradict each other. Does evaluation start at the top down or bottom up? Do we use prophylactic antibiotics? Are they useful? A point-counter point discussion of these controversies/recommendations will be presented. Bring your questions and experiences to share in an open discussion.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe VUR vesico-ureteral reflux; associated conditions and long term consequences of untreated VUR?
  • Identify updated approaches in the management of VUR?
  • Discuss appropriate evaluation of UTI?
  • Discuss advantages and disadvantages of current treatment modalities?
  • Illustrate long-term follow-up.

  • Shelly King, MSN, CPNP, Nurse Practitioner, Riley Hospital for Children
