The variety and severity of urologic problems, equipment, personnel, post operative care, and follow up are presented. Emphasis on vesico-vaginal fistula pathogenesis and repair are presented. This is an entertaining discussion of interest to urology practitioners.

The entrance of military women into austere deployment environments, traditionally dominated by men, poses unique female genitourinary concerns. Aside from feminine hygiene problems that can increase the risk for vaginitis, there are critical issues related to urination. This presentation provides a brief history of the expanded deployment roles of military women, related urologic issues, and strategies currently being evaluted and tested to reduce the risks of GU complications.

The history and anatomy of pelvic prolapse repair, a review of the literature on native tissue repairs, the concept of “patch” repairs using tissue and the transition to the use of mesh are outlined. A comprehensive review of the literature is presented. A critical evaluation of complications as outlined by the FDA is presented. This review educates the practitioner to the benefits of vaginal mesh in the current area of mesh phobia.

It is well accepted that video-urodynamics is considered the “gold standard” for the evaluation of voiding abnormalities. However, the majority of urodynamics practitioners do not utilize “video” for various reasons.This lecture focuses on how the “video” of video-urodynamics answers clinical questions that cannot be answered by any other technique. The presentation shows how “video” adds an anatomic dimension to the urodynamic study that is complimentary to the pressure study. Several urodynamic case studies are presented.

When voiding dysfunction has continued to the point it now includes not only urinary incontinence, but also constipation, stool incontinence, and/or recurrent urinary tract infections, it is then classified as Dysfunctional Elimination Syndrome (DES). We are seeing this in rising epidemic proportions. This lecture reviews the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment interventions, as well as provides ways to bring community awareness and education of DES in order to optimize children’s urologic health.
