This preconference session reviews pharmacologic management of prevalent and benign urologic conditions including urinary tract infections, OAB/urge incontinence, prostatic enlargement, urinary retention/ incomplete bladder emptying, nocturia, painful bladder syndrome/interstitial cystitis, erectile dysfunction, and hypogonadism. A review the newest targeted therapies used for managing advanced stage urologic cancers is presented. Emphasis is placed on the role of Advanced Practice Provider and expert clinician related to pharmacologic management of these prevalent and clinically relevant urologic conditions.

Are you planning to seek certification in the urologic specialty? If so, this course is designed as a study session to prepare participants for the urology certification exam. This is an adjunct to preparing for the exam in addition to utilizing the detailed Examination Preparation Guide prepared by CBUNA. The course reviews urinary tract inflammations, voiding dysfunction, obstructive uropathies, male infertility, sexual dysfunction and urologic cancers. Participants are also given some test taking strategies.

This course is designed for advanced practice nurses and physician assistants who will begin to perform cystoscopy. Participants will gain knowledge in identifying normal and abnormal findings in the bladder and indications for cystoscopy. Patient and equipment preparation to ensure safety during the procedure also are described. Participants are exposed to the care and handling of flexible and rigid cystoscopes and techniques for performing bladder biopsy, stent removal, difficult foley placement, and general cystoscopic maneuvers for full bladder evaluation.

Accurate assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of various urologic conditions is vital to enhance the urologic practitioner's skill and to achieve positive patient outcomes. Providing a variety of treatment options is key to achieving success when considering urologic conditions that result from pelvic floor and/or pelvic girdle impairments. Common diagnoses include stress, urge and mixed urinary incontinence, urinary retention, fecal incontinence, colorectal evacuation dysfunction, male and female pelvic pain and pelvic organ prolapse. Gain an understanding of the physical therapist's objective assessment and treatment techniques. This session is appropriate for the nurse performing bio-feedback and the advanced provider managing the patient.
