Not all cultural awareness and competency issues relate to foreign languages or cultures. Ignoring diversity and providing culturally incongruent care can affect patient outcomes and jeopardize their safety. Quality health care can only occur within the patient’s cultural context. Developing cultural awareness and competence is a priority in the multicultural workplace. This presentation discusses cultural awareness and sensitivity in our current healthcare environment and explores different patient populations and their diverse needs.
