Individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS) can have failure to store urine or empty their bladder. Care of these individuals can be complicated as the disease process can be progressive, or relapsing-remitting. Urologic care providers need to be educated on the disease process, medications and how to appropriately care for urinary issues. Every individual with MS should have a urologic evaluation and establish an ongoing relationship with the urologic team. An overview of MS, current treatments, ongoing urologic care, evaluation and treatment options are presented.
