Urinary tract infections are very common. Sometimes these infections pursue a more challenging course by becoming rapidly recurrent, leading to an escalation in antibiotic courses, bacterial resistance pattern, and/or antibiotic allergies, that further complicate their management. This presentation reviews the suspected bladder mechanisms that can provoke bacterial persistence and recurrence of the infectious cycle in the bladder, the concept of biofilm formation, and the few methods of therapy available to eradicate these tenacious bacterial niches.
