Urology practitioners need to be proactive in the evaluation and management of bone health in our prostate cancer patients on ADT, metastatic prostate cancer, and hypogonadism. A review of the pathophysiology of osteoporosis relating to ADT, hypogonadism and bone metastastes, national guidelines are discussed, appropriate screening with DXA scans or bone scans, interpretation of DXA scans, preventative health measures, exercise, and medications used to treat osteoporosis, osteopenia, and bone metastases are presented.

The bladder diary has been cited as a valuable tool when assessing patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Diaries provide a wealth of information and also can be used when assessing progress following bladder retraining. LUTS assessment involves stratifying symptomatology into voiding symptoms, storage symptoms, and post micturition symptoms. LUTS assessment and how bladder diaries as a valuable tool to assist clinicians in assessing this patient group will be discussed.

Have you been assigned to cysto or another urology surgery case, looked at the list of instruments and supplies needed for the case, and wondered what they are or how they work? Then this course is designed for you. Different instrumentation and other items are discussed, including their names, purposes, types of surgeries they are used for, and special care involved. It will be a great opportunity for those new to cysto/urology as well as for those who rarely get involved in the surgical aspects of urology to gain better knowledge and comfort in using these items.

An understanding of the causes, evaluation, and treatment are of paramount importance when faced with patients suffering from these symptoms. This lecture provides an overview of the mechanism of continence and outline the approach to patients suffering with fecal incontinence.

Incontinence in the adult male differs significantly from the issues faced by adult women. In men, urge incontinence is the most common form of incontinence, and stress incontinence is associated with prostate surgery. There is a discussion on diagnosis and management of urinary incontinence in adult men, focusing on behavioral, pharmacologic, and newer options in neuromodulation.

Delirium, through the lens of the older adult who presents with concurrent UTI, is presented. Both conditions are common in the older adult population and important for the urologic health provider to be comfortable in providing evidence-based assessment and management. Included is a discussion of epidemiology and risk factors, pertinent history, physical examination, potential laboratory studies and additional validated screening tools to develop a differential diagnosis and plan for management. Early detection, prevention and aftercare as well as management strategies will focus on nonmedical, nursing strategies as well as collaborative practice strategies involving pharmacologic interventions.

The prevalence of kidney stone disease is increasing in both adults and children. Metabolic risk factors are present in most patients affected by stones. Targeted therapy towards the patient’s specific abnormalities has been shown to decrease recurrence. The current burden of stone disease in the United States, the metabolic evaluation and risk assessment in patients, and the recommended nutrition and medication measures for prevention are discussed in this session.
