This lecture reviews pharmacologic use of medications commonly used in continence specialty practice. The focus includes pharmacologic management of overactive bladder, urogenital atrophy, and associated lower urinary tract symptoms. The lecture also covers pharmacotherapy in the management of urinary retention and stress urinary incontinence. We also discuss side effects of common drugs on lower urinary tract function and evolving evidence concerning the effects of the combination dietary ingredient/over-the-counter medication caffeine.
