While there have been improvements in cancer diagnosis and treatment and more people are living longer after diagnosis, not everyone is living well. Cancer services in the United Kingdom need to adapt to ensure that patients are supported throughout their journey. The Recovery Package is a series of key interventions that together can greatly improve outcomes for people living with and beyond cancer and reduce unnecessary hospital attendance.

Screening, recognizing and options in postoperative urinary retention and patients at risk, procedures that place a patient at risk that result in urologic intervention (example spinal surgery, catheter placement during the procedure, undiagnosed BPH/stricture/or other obstructions) are discussed.

Women with pelvic floor disorders (PFDs) face major health burdens and may experience change in sexual health and function. The current evidence for PFD therapies and how to provide anticipatory guidance for women considering therapy are discussed. The role of the clinician is critical to provide a safe environment to discuss sexual health, ask sensitive questions, understand evidence-based therapies available, recognize their impact on sexual function, and provide holistic care for women with PFDs.

If you want to know more about what’s new in the treatment of neuropathic bladder, then this lecture is for you. Evaluation and interpretation of results are important to maximize each patient’s bladder health. The interdisciplinary research agenda set for urinary incontinence in the elderly by members of the U13 Bedside-to-Bench Conference Series, held in 2016 and supported by the National Institute on Aging and the American Geriatrics Society, are detailed in this presentation. Key findings are presented and case studies are used to augment and highlight additional pertinent points.

Following a review of the evolution of surgical options for stress urinary incontinence, this lecture details the efficacy and safety issues of the various midurethral slings. The rationale for mesh use in pelvic organ prolapse repair, its efficacy, and the unique safety issues associated with its placement by a transvaginal route as well as the future directions for managing mesh use in urogynecologic procedures are discussed.

Many men are seeking complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies to help maximize their health after prostate cancer. Some men are including CAM treatments to help manage their reproductive health issues and guide their recovery post prostate cancer treatment. It is beneficial to have an understanding of the various therapies that our patients may be using. Evidence to encourage a wider perspective on encouraging CAM therapy will be reviewed.
