The state of diagnosis and treatment for female urinary tract infection (UTI), one of the most common bacterial infections of humans is reviewed in this presentation. The annual social cost of UTIs has been estimated at 1.6 billion dollars with 11.3 million antibiotic prescriptions annually. Despite elegant research into UTI pathophysiology, clinical care and prevention, strategies have not advanced in any meaningful way. This presentation includes new information about the urobiome and highlights opportunities to improve clinical care.
