Mark L. Phippen RN, MN, CNOR

Mark L. Phippen, R. N., M. N., CNOR, is a Global Senior Clinical Educator for Covidien. He received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from California State University, Long Beach in 1973, and his Masters in Nursing from the University of Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California in 1981. Mark has been a certified operating room nurse since 1985. He has held a variety of perioperative nursing positions, including staff nurse, head nurse, operating room educator, manager, and director.

Mark is the senior editor for the Competency and Credentialing Institute's publication Competency for Safe Patient Care During Operative and Invasive Procedures (2009). He has authored 15 chapters in perioperative nursing books and 33 articles in the AORN Journal and Seminars in Perioperative Nursing. During his career, he has made numerous professional presentations on various health care topics to nurse and physician audiences throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, China, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Japan, Australia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, The Philippines, Singapore, and the Republic of Korea. Mark served on the AORN Board of Directors from 1986-1989. From 1989-1991 he was the national AORN President-elect and President. From 2001-2003 he served on the Certification Board: Perioperative Nursing. In 1993, he received the AORN Award for Excellence in Perioperative Nursing.
