Dr. McKernan is a clinical psychologist and Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. She is a national expert in psychosocial intervention strategies for interstitial cystitis (IC/BPS) and benign urologic conditions. With the support of the National Institute of Health, Dr. McKernan developed the first patient-informed psychological intervention tailored specifically for IC/BPS. She is currently funded to examine how patient pain presentations inform response to non-pharmacological IC/BPS interventions. Her research and clinical practice are dedicated to reducing suffering and improving the quality of life in those who live with IC/BPS.
