Kate O'Dell completed basic midwifery education at the Frontier Nursing Service in Kentucky. She attended over 1500 births, predominantly in rural areas of Appalachia. These experiences awakened her awareness of the importance of optimal pelvic floor function in women's lives. She subsequently received a Master's degree from Case Western Reserve University and a PhD from the University of Massachusetts. She is currently an Assistant Professor of OB/GYN within the Division of Urogynecology at UMass Medical School.
