Joy Kerr is a certified pediatric nurse practitioner and certified registered nurse first assistant at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). She has over 30 years of experience in pediatric surgery, having started at CHOP in the operating room, then becoming a first assistant, and finally becoming a pediatric nurse practitioner. She obtained her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in 2019 at Villanova University. Joy has been with the urology team at CHOP for the past 23 years and cares for patients in the Neurogenic Bladder and Bowel clinic, Dysfunctional Voiding clinic and Surgical clinics. Joy has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults with Spina Bifida for yearly visits, Video Urodynamic Testing, Clean Intermittent Catheterization (CIC) training, and offers alternative bowel management methods and training. She is the coordinator of the Spina Bifida Multidisciplinary Team Meetings. She has led the team that developed the Neurogenic Bowel Management Clinical Pathway for Spina Bifida patients at CHOP and is part of a multidisciplinary team developing a device to allow children and adolescents with spina bifida to become more independent in bowel management. She is involved in the Spina Bifida Association’s bowel management group helping to develop the Lifespan Bowel Management Protocol and updating the Bowel Management Guidelines.
