The prevalence of kidney stone disease is increasing in both adults and children. Metabolic risk factors are present in most patients affected by stones. Targeted therapy towards the patient’s specific abnormalities has been shown to decrease recurrence. The current burden of stone disease in the United States, the metabolic evaluation and risk assessment in patients, and the recommended nutrition and medication measures for prevention are discussed in this session.
